Eye Care

Eye care ranges from regular eye exams to glaucoma treatment to refractive surgery. Your first stop on a quest for quality eye care should be your eye doctor. Your eye doctor is knowledgeable about all of those topics and more.

Here are some quick tips for good eye care.

1. Find an eye doctor. Ask friends, family and co-workers for recommendations. Ensure that any doctors who are recommended participate in your vision insurance plan, if you have one.

2. Have regular eye exams. After you locate an eye doctor, make an appointment for an annual eye exam. Then return each year, or every two years at the absolute minimum, for exams.

Remember, you need to see your eye doctor for well visits to stay on top of your eye care. Eye doctors are checking your ocular health, not just giving you a new prescription for your glasses. You need to be seen even if you think you don’t need new glasses. Your eye doctor may detect problems you don’t know about. Good eye care means regular eye exams.

3. Follow your eye doctor’s instructions. Your eye doctor may prescribe glasses to wear all day or only when reading or driving. Perhaps you will receive a prescription for eye drops to be taken for a certain number of times per day. Or you might need to return for a follow-up visit.

If your eye doctor gave you instructions, chances are following those instructions will improve your eye health, your vision or both. Make that return appointment, wear the glasses as you’re supposed to and take your drops. That is good eye care.
